Position Title: Senior Financial Officer

Department: Finance

Reports To: Assistant Controller, Financial Reporting

Supervises: General Ledger/Accounts Receivable Technician

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

General Responsibilities:

The Senior Financial Officer is tasked with overseeing the financial operations of designated non-profit entities. This role includes managing month-end closing activities, conducting ad-hoc audits, and executing special projects as required by the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and finalize month-end closing processes, which encompass adjusting journal entries, revenue accruals, and allocation of fringe benefits and overhead.
  • Review balance sheet activities and prepare necessary reconciliations to ensure accurate understanding of balance sheet figures, addressing discrepancies, and preparing journal entries as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and accounting personnel to achieve timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for assigned organizations.
  • Support the scheduling of annual financial audits for designated entities.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external professional relationships.
  • Guide and mentor General Ledger Accountants.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Advanced Responsibilities:

  • Execute all responsibilities of the Senior Financial Officer with greater expertise.
  • Provide support to Senior Accountants by addressing inquiries, offering guidance, making recommendations, and conducting essential training.
  • Supervise the General Ledger – Accounts Receivable Technician.
  • Review specific reconciliations and journal entries submitted by other accountants.
  • Focus on reconciling complex balance sheet items.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Financial and auditing skills suitable for an organization of CITC's size and scope.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with departmental management and staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly in a team-oriented environment.
  • Understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian communities.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) years of experience in general ledger, auditing, or related accounting roles.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
  • Proficient in ten-key by touch.
  • Two (2) years of experience in preparing for internal/external audits.
  • Two (2) years of experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of a state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sage Intacct and ADP.
  • Background in Public Accounting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily operates in an office environment, with extended periods at a desk and on a computer.
