Position Title: Senior Accountant / Experienced Senior Accountant

Department: Finance

Reporting To: Assistant Controller, Financial Reporting

Supervision: None (E5), General Ledger/Accounts Receivable Technician (E6)

Employment Status: Exempt

Job Classification: Regular, Full-Time

Role Summary:

The Senior Accountant is tasked with overseeing the financial operations of designated non-profit entities. This role includes managing month-end closing activities, conducting ad-hoc audits, and engaging in special projects as required by the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and finalize month-end closing processes, including necessary journal entries, revenue accruals, and overhead allocations.
  • Monitor balance sheet transactions and prepare reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and accounting personnel to ensure timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for assigned entities.
  • Support the scheduling and execution of annual financial audits.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guide and mentor General Ledger Accountants.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as assigned.

Advanced Responsibilities:

  • Execute all Senior Accountant duties with enhanced proficiency.
  • Provide support to Senior Accountants through guidance, training, and recommendations.
  • Supervise the General Ledger – Accounts Receivable Technician.
  • Review reconciliations and journal entries prepared by other accountants.
  • Focus on complex balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Financial and audit expertise suitable for a corporation of CITC's scale.
  • Proven capability to collaborate effectively with management and staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, emphasizing teamwork.
  • Awareness of the social, health, educational, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian communities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of experience in general ledger, auditing, or related accounting roles.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to perform ten-key calculations by touch.
  • Two years of experience in internal/external audit preparation.
  • Two years of experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon passing a state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sage Intacct and ADP.
  • Background in Public Accounting.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based, requiring extended periods at a desk and on a computer.
