Position Overview:
As a Clinical EHR Training Specialist II at Children's National Hospital, you will play a crucial role within our Clinical Informatics & Learning team. Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and assess training programs focused on Electronic Health Records (EHR). Your proficiency in instructional design and training strategies, combined with your knowledge of healthcare technology, will enable our staff to effectively utilize EHR systems, thereby enhancing patient safety, care delivery, and overall experiences for patients, families, and staff alike.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, healthcare, instructional design, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, relevant experience in learning instruction may substitute for educational requirements on a 1:1 basis.
  • Master's Degree in education, healthcare, instructional design, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum Work Experience:
  • 2 years of experience in adult education, instructional design, training delivery, or curriculum development, ideally within a healthcare setting.
  • 5 years of technical or professional experience with EHR systems or related software.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of EHR systems and healthcare technology, particularly in relation to clinical workflows.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools, learning management systems (LMS), and virtual training platforms.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills, capable of simplifying complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences through various formats.
  • Strong project management abilities, adept at overseeing multiple training initiatives concurrently.
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design methodologies and principles of adult learning.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and build relationships with clinical, operational, administrative, and IT stakeholders.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
CPLP / CPTD, EHR-specific certifications are preferred.

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation and implementation of comprehensive EHR training programs for clinical and administrative personnel, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and best practices.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts, IT teams, and clinical stakeholders to comprehend EHR functionalities and workflows, facilitating the development of effective training materials.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to craft engaging learning experiences tailored to various learning styles.
  • Develop interactive training content, including e-learning modules, instructor-led sessions, simulations, and job aids.
  • Deliver training through diverse channels, including individual and group instruction, classroom sessions, webinars, and both remote and in-person training events.
  • Adapt educational materials and communications to meet the specific needs of various clinical roles and workflows.
  • Support onboarding and continuous learning initiatives, including projects involving new functionalities or workflow changes.
  • Assess training needs and performance gaps, continuously refining training materials based on learner feedback and updates to EHR systems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and metrics to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Stay informed about updates to EHR systems, integrating changes into training materials and sessions.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless learning experiences for new and onboarding staff.
  • Mentor junior instructors, promoting their professional growth and development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
