As the Lead Clinical Training Specialist at Children's National Hospital, you will play a crucial role within our Clinical Informatics & Learning team, tasked with the creation, implementation, and assessment of Electronic Health Record (EHR) training initiatives. Your proficiency in educational design, training strategies, and healthcare technology will enable our personnel to utilize our EHR and associated systems effectively, enhancing patient safety, care delivery, and the overall experience for patients, families, and staff alike.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree in education, healthcare, instructional design, or a related discipline is preferred. Alternatively, relevant instructional experience exceeding the minimum required work experience may be considered as a substitute on a 1-1 basis (i.e., one year of pertinent work experience equals one year of required education). (Required)
  • A Master's Degree or other advanced qualifications in education, healthcare, instructional design, or a related field is desirable. (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
  • A minimum of four years of experience in adult education, instructional design, training delivery, and/or curriculum development, ideally within a healthcare or medical context. (Required)
  • A minimum of seven years of technical or professional experience utilizing EHRs and/or related software. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of EHR systems and healthcare technology, emphasizing integration into clinical workflows.
  • Expertise in e-learning authoring tools, learning management systems (LMS), and virtual training platforms.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication abilities, capable of simplifying complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences through various channels, including both static and dynamic content delivery.
  • Strong project management capabilities, adept at overseeing multiple training projects concurrently.
  • Proven experience in instructional design methodologies and principles of adult learning.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and cultivate relationships with clinical, operational, administrative, and IT stakeholders.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • CPLP / CPTD, EHR-specific certifications (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities
  • Oversee the design and implementation of comprehensive EHR training programs for clinical and administrative personnel, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, standards, culture, and best practices.
  • Work in partnership with subject matter experts, IT teams, and clinical stakeholders to comprehend EHR system functionalities and workflows, creating relevant and effective training materials.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to develop engaging learning experiences that accommodate diverse learning preferences.
  • Create interactive training content, including e-learning modules, instructor-led sessions, simulations, job aids, and additional reference materials.
  • Facilitate training through various formats, including individual and small group instruction, classroom and webinar sessions, as well as remote and in-person training events.
  • Adapt educational and training materials to suit specific clinical roles and workflows.
  • Support onboarding and continuous learning for new staff, projects involving new functionalities or workflow changes, and other targeted learning experiences.
  • Assess training needs and performance gaps, continuously refining training materials based on learner feedback and updates to EHR and related systems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training materials and programs through feedback and metrics to measure learning outcomes and implement improvements.
  • Develop metrics for end-user competence, confidence, and efficiency to inform training experiences.
  • Stay informed about EHR system updates and changes, integrating them into training materials and sessions.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless learning experiences for new and onboarding staff, including students, trainees, and faculty across disciplines.
  • Mentor and support junior instructors, promoting their professional growth and development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
