Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Human Resources Generalist 3, the HR Generalist 2 is tasked with the efficient management of all staff personnel and payroll activities within the Campus Recreation Department. This role involves maintaining statistical data, personnel records, and payroll documentation, serving as the primary contact for personnel and payroll matters. The HR Generalist applies professional human resources practices and organizational policies to guide supervisors and managers in addressing a range of human resources challenges of moderate complexity.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $63,800 - $87,700 (Annual).

Essential Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical abilities to perform assessments and formulate recommendations; possesses organizational and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with various HR domains is essential.
  • Understanding of organizational policies and procedures, along with knowledge of the relevant functional area.
  • Basic comprehension of human resources policies and programs, and their implications for other organizational policies.
  • Experience with human resources management systems (HRMS) and related business software. Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, and web browsing applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information for task completion.
  • Proven capability to manage challenging situations and individuals with composure.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and demonstrates a high level of tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to independently manage projects while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity to organizational policies.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks based on their significance to job responsibilities.
  • Skill in independently investigating issues and compiling reports and project materials.
  • Analytical skills to systematically organize and evaluate complex personnel data, alongside various regulations, and make informed recommendations.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, industrial psychology, HR management, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in human resources generalist roles or administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the UCPath system.
  • Knowledge of university personnel and payroll policies and procedures.

Special Conditions:

  • This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule during standard working hours. However, weekend or non-traditional hours may be necessary for special projects or peak periods, or to meet critical deadlines.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification of qualifications, and ongoing compliance with relevant licensure requirements.
  • Employees must adhere to OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC guidelines regarding vaccinations and testing for university personnel.
  • As per the UC Ethics Briefing, employees are responsible for promptly reporting any potential conflicts of interest to their supervisor.
