The School-Based Community Support Specialist acts as a vital link between children, families, educational institutions, and various external resources. This role encompasses a diverse array of services tailored to meet the unique needs and expectations of each child and family. Availability during evenings and weekends may be necessary to accommodate the families we serve. Collaborative documentation with families is also a key responsibility.

The position begins with training in a community setting and transitions to include school-based responsibilities once the necessary clinical and professional competencies are established. School-based specialists will conduct monthly home visits with caregivers for each client, with the frequency adjusted as needed for optimal care.

*This role operates within designated school districts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a representative and advocate for Compass Health Network, facilitating communication between the agency and educational institutions.
  • Provide consultation to school staff on mental health issues, offering insights on a variety of relevant topics.
  • Collaborate with other professionals regarding assigned children and their families, actively participating in a multidisciplinary team to address mental health needs.
  • Deliver personalized behavioral health services based on the strengths, needs, and preferences identified in partnership with clients and families, focusing on recovery and resilience.
  • Assist families in creating their Wellness Plans.
  • Utilize a holistic, person-centered approach, integrating coaching on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness to support families in achieving their goals.
  • Help families access and coordinate services and resources necessary for goal attainment.
  • Provide educational resources and skill-building to clients, families, and school personnel on various concerns, including daily living skills and symptom management.
  • Support families in developing natural support systems, engaging with family members, school staff, and legal guardians.
  • Facilitate the completion of initial and annual assessments and Wellness Plans as directed by supervisors.
  • Seek culturally competent services to meet the diverse needs of each client and family.
  • Driving is a fundamental aspect of this role.



High School diploma or GED is required.
Preferred qualifications include an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a human services-related field.

If a degree has not been obtained, the following is required:

At least four (4) years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience if a High School diploma/GED is the highest qualification.

At least two (2) years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience if an Associate's degree is the highest qualification.
(*If the degree is an Associate's of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support from an accredited institution, no additional experience is required.)

At least one (1) year of relevant experience is required if a non-human services Bachelor's degree is the highest qualification.

All experience must involve working with individuals facing psychiatric, substance use, and/or developmental challenges.

A valid driver's license and minimum automobile insurance coverage as established by the agency are required.
