The School-Based Community Support Specialist acts as a vital link between children, families, schools, and other external systems, delivering a comprehensive range of services tailored to the unique needs of each child and family. Evening and weekend availability is essential to accommodate the families we serve. Collaborative documentation with families is also a key requirement.

This position begins with training in a community-based role and transitions to include school-based responsibilities once clinical and professional competencies are sufficiently demonstrated. School-based Community Support Specialists meet regularly with caregivers in the home setting, often on a monthly basis or more frequently as needed for optimal care.

*This role operates within designated school districts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a representative and advocate for Compass Health Network, facilitating communication between the agency and school districts.
  • Provide consultation to school staff on mental health issues, offering insights on a variety of mental health topics.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advocate for the mental health needs of assigned children and their families.
  • Deliver personalized behavioral health services based on the strengths, needs, and preferences identified in partnership with clients and families, focusing on recovery and resilience.
  • Assist clients and families in developing their Wellness Plans.
  • Utilize a holistic, person-centered, strengths-based approach, incorporating coaching around the Eight Dimensions of Wellness to support clients and families in achieving their goals.
  • Help families access and arrange necessary services and resources to meet their objectives.
  • Provide educational resources and skill-building opportunities to clients, families, and school personnel regarding daily living skills, education, symptom management, and communication to enhance overall functioning.
  • Support families in establishing natural support systems, collaborating with family members, school staff, and legal guardians.
  • Assist in the completion of initial and annual assessments and Wellness Plans as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Seek culturally competent services and providers to address the unique cultural needs of each client and family.
  • Driving is a fundamental aspect of this position.



Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required.
Preferred: Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a human service-related field.

If no degree has been obtained, one of the following is required:

At least four (4) years of relevant experience, or a combination of higher education and experience if a High School diploma/GED is the highest education attained.

At least two (2) years of relevant experience, or a combination of higher education and experience if an Associate's degree is the highest education attained.
(*If the degree is an Associate's of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support from an accredited institution, no additional experience is required.)

At least one (1) year of relevant experience required if a non-human service Bachelor's degree is the highest education attained.

All experience must involve working with individuals facing psychiatric, substance use, and/or developmental disabilities.

A valid driver's license and minimum automobile coverage as established by the agency are required.
