This is a full-time position eligible for benefits, working within the Union R-XI School District.
The School-Based Community Support Specialist acts as a crucial link between children, families, educational institutions, and external support systems. The role encompasses a variety of services tailored to the unique needs and expectations of each child and family. Flexibility for evening and weekend availability is essential to accommodate the families we serve. Collaborative documentation with families is also a necessary component of this role.
The position begins with training in a community-based setting, transitioning to school-based responsibilities once the required clinical and professional competencies are achieved. School-based Integrated Health Specialists meet regularly with caregivers at home, with frequency determined by the specific needs of each client.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a representative and liaison for Compass Health Network, fostering connections between the agency and educational institutions.
- Provide consultation to school staff on a variety of mental health topics, enhancing their understanding and capacity to support students.
- Collaborate actively with various system staff regarding assigned children and their families, participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team to advocate for the mental health needs of the child and family.
- Deliver personalized behavioral health services based on the strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences identified in partnership with the client and family, focusing on recovery and resilience goals.
- Assist clients and families in creating their Wellness Plans.
- Utilize a holistic, person-centered, strengths-based approach, incorporating coaching on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness to support clients and families in achieving their goals.
- Help families access and arrange necessary services and resources to meet their objectives.
- Provide educational resources and skill-building opportunities to clients, families, and school personnel regarding daily living skills, education, symptom management, and communication to enhance overall functioning.
- Support families in developing natural support systems, engaging with family members, school staff, and legal guardians.
- Assist in the completion of initial and annual assessments and Wellness Plans as directed by the Supervisor.
- Seek culturally competent services and providers to address the unique cultural needs of each client and family.
- Driving is a fundamental aspect of this position.
