The School-Based Community Support Specialist acts as a vital link between children, families, and educational institutions, delivering a comprehensive array of services tailored to the unique needs of each child and family. Flexibility for evening and weekend hours is essential to accommodate the families we serve. Collaborative documentation with families is also a key component of this role.

This position begins with training in a community-focused setting and transitions to include responsibilities within school environments as the necessary clinical and professional skills are acquired. School-based specialists will conduct regular home visits with caregivers to ensure optimal support for each client.

*This role will be associated with specific school districts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a representative and liaison for Compass Health Network, fostering connections between the agency and educational institutions.
  • Provide expert consultation to school staff on various mental health topics, enhancing their understanding and capacity to support students.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advocate for the mental health needs of children and their families.
  • Deliver personalized behavioral health services that align with the strengths, needs, and preferences of clients and their families, promoting recovery and resilience.
  • Assist families in creating their Wellness Plans, ensuring a tailored approach to their unique situations.
  • Utilize a holistic, person-centered, strengths-based approach in service delivery, incorporating coaching on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Support families in navigating and accessing essential services and resources to achieve their goals.
  • Provide educational resources and skill-building opportunities to clients, families, and school personnel on various concerns, including daily living skills and symptom management.
  • Facilitate the development of natural support systems involving family members, school staff, and legal guardians.
  • Assist in the completion of assessments and Wellness Plans as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Ensure culturally competent services are provided to meet the diverse needs of clients and families.
  • Driving is a necessary function of this position.



Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED. A degree in a human services-related field is preferred.

If a degree has not been obtained, the following experience is required:

At least four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience if a High School diploma is the highest qualification.

At least two years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience if an Associate's degree is the highest qualification.

At least one year of relevant experience is required if a non-human services Bachelor's degree is the highest qualification.

All experience must involve working with individuals facing psychiatric, substance use, or developmental challenges.

A valid driver's license and minimum automobile insurance coverage are mandatory.
