Job Title: Sous Chef, South Pole Station

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our team at the South Pole Station. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals to our staff and guests.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for a diverse group of staff and guests.
  • Manage and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Supervise and train junior chefs and kitchen staff to ensure high-quality service and food preparation.
  • Coordinate and execute special events and functions, such as holiday meals and themed dinners.
  • Develop and implement new menu ideas and recipes to enhance the culinary experience for our staff and guests.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service Coordinator to plan and execute food orders, inventory management, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper labeling, dating, and storage of food products.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and respectful work environment, fostering a culture of teamwork and open communication.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary arts degree or certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent position in a high-volume food service environment.
  • Proven track record of leadership and management experience, with a focus on team development and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of staff and guests.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. passport required.

Working Conditions:

The Sous Chef will work in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment with a high level of activity and noise. The position requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a cold environment. The Sous Chef must be able to work effectively in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude in a challenging and atypical working environment.
