  1. Ghirardelli Associates is actively seeking a Construction Inspector. This role involves working alongside a skilled team of professionals.

Position Overview:

The Construction Inspector will oversee and evaluate construction practices and quality to ensure that contractors execute projects such as roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports, and other public infrastructure in alignment with established plans and specifications. This role may involve serving as the sole inspector on a project or assisting in managing inspection activities for larger or more complex assignments.

  • Participating in pre-construction meetings.
  • Creating detailed daily reports that document construction activities, including contractor labor, equipment usage, daily progress, site visitors, non-compliance issues, safety concerns, traffic management, and weather conditions.
  • Maintaining a daily timesheet to record hours worked, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Collaborating with Resident Engineers, Bridge Engineers, Project Engineers, and contractors' supervisors regarding work progress and construction challenges.
  • Preparing quantity calculation sheets to support monthly payments to contractors.
  • Coordinating field testing of construction materials and conducting construction surveys.
  • Facilitating communication between various departments and external entities.
  • Ensuring that contractors adhere to plans and specifications for roadways, bridges, and related structures.
  • Monitoring project phases and traffic control plans for compliance with safety standards.
  • Observing and inspecting ongoing construction activities.
  • Managing construction documentation and recommending contractor payments.
  • Training and mentoring junior inspectors on best practices.
  • Documenting project progress and any issues that arise.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Familiarity with construction inspection techniques related to roadways, highways, bridges, rail systems, airports, utilities, and other infrastructure is essential.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as CalOsha, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and various environmental regulations is required.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in roadway construction inspection is mandatory.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Caltrans or other public agencies is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications is beneficial.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, attending meetings, or driving. The role involves walking for up to 2 hours per day during field visits. The associate must have sufficient vision to function in a typical office environment and read standard text on paper and electronic screens. Frequent use of hands is required, along with repetitive motions and physical agility to perform tasks that involve a full range of body movements, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Safety equipment such as hard hats and safety vests are required, and the role may involve working in poorly ventilated areas, outdoors, or on uneven surfaces. The associate must be able to work in various weather conditions and may be required to work evenings or weekends for emergency responses.
