DESCRIPTION:


The Lead Civil Engineer role encompasses responsibilities across various departments within the City of Long Beach, including Airport, Community Development, Harbor, Public Works, and Utilities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees and coordinates the review of engineering plans and designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Manages program/project management and construction oversight for a variety of engineering initiatives.
  • Conducts thorough evaluations of plans, designs, estimates, and reports related to surveys, inspections, soils, and geology.
  • Supervises the creation of engineering plans and specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Performs structural and architectural checks to confirm compliance with building codes and legal requirements.
  • Leads and directs multi-disciplinary teams on complex engineering projects.
  • Prepares detailed reports and manages project budgets, costs, and timelines.
  • Administers contracts with consultants and oversees construction agreements.
  • Acts as a deputy to the Division/Section Head as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California (proof required). A minimum of five years of relevant full-time experience is required, including at least two years in a similar role while registered as a Civil Engineer.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. A valid driver's license is required at the time of selection.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certifications pertinent to the Water Department, Harbor Department, and Public Works Department are highly regarded.


SELECTION PROCESS:

Applicants will be screened based on their application and required supplemental materials. All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list.
