Role: Combat Systems Installation Engineer


As a Waterfront Installation Engineer, you will oversee the implementation of ACB12/16 Combat System enhancements during modernization efforts on US AEGIS DDG and CG Class vessels.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing detailed design schematics, performing installation inspections of AEGIS CG-47 and DDG-51 Class Ship combat systems and associated support systems.


Provide technical support and solutions to Engineering, Detail Design, and Field Engineering teams (including Lockheed Martin, Government, and Contractors) regarding installation and design challenges.

Diagnose technical issues, determine solutions in line with product and customer specifications, and advise company or customer representatives on coordinated product resolutions.

Collaborate with CG & DDG Planning Yards to develop Combat System Technical Data Packages.

Conduct thorough technical analyses of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to meet specific customer requirements.

Evaluate product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Facilitate technical training and product briefings for customers, vendors, and company representatives.

Supervise the shipboard load-outs of combat systems equipment.

Perform inspections of combat system equipment and cabling during installation to identify issues and propose solutions.

Engage in design reviews and provide installation and operational support for Combat System Support Equipment (e.g., cooling systems, electronic dry air, etc.).


Execute equipment ORDALT upgrades and ensure the completion of engineering field changes on the AEGIS Weapon System.

Act as the local on-site representative for the customer's organization.

Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.


This position may require up to 40% temporary and extended travel to various locations for operational support.


Shift work, brief at-sea periods, and occasional travel to support fleet emergent requirements and equipment installation events will be necessary. Flexibility in working hours, including overtime and weekends, may be required.
US Citizenship is mandatory.

Basic Qualifications

  • Up to 50% travel per year is expected.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in design, integration, and/or installation engineering with knowledge of CG 47, DDG 51, and/or FMS Aegis or other USN surface ship combat system equipment.
  • Familiarity with Military Specifications and Standards related to equipment bonding and grounding on Navy Ships.
  • Understanding of the US Navy Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and NAVSEA Technical Specification for Ship Alteration Accomplishment by Installation Teams.
  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications for electrical and optical cable, connectors, and system design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, initiative, and exceptional teamwork capabilities are essential. Ability to work in a diverse corporate/cultural team environment is required.
  • A final DoD Secret Security Clearance is necessary prior to starting this position. US Citizenship is required.

Desired Skills

  • BS in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of interface protocols, system design criteria, and equipment interactions.
  • Experience with Alteration Installation Team (AIT) installation and/or testing of BMD upgrades on Aegis CG and DDG class ships.
  • Prior experience as an installation engineer in ship repair facilities or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience with equipment engineering change installations.
  • Operational experience in the Aegis fleet is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with cable fabrication and testing techniques.
  • Experience with soldering and wire wrap techniques is a plus.
  • Certifications in relevant areas are beneficial.
  • Experience with Aegis systems and ship support systems is preferred.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and collaborate effectively in a multi-organization team environment.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports various alternate work schedules to provide flexibility for our employees.

These schedules may range from standard 40 hours over a five-day work week to condensed options, allowing for additional time away from the office.

The annual base salary range for this position varies based on location and experience.
