Role: Combat Systems Installation Engineer


As a Waterfront Installation Engineer, you will oversee the installation of ACB12/16 Combat System enhancements during modernization projects on U.S. Navy AEGIS DDG and CG Class vessels.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing detailed design schematics, performing installation inspections of AEGIS CG-47 and DDG-51 Class Ship combat systems and associated support systems.


Provide technical support and solutions to Engineering, Detail Design, and Field Engineering teams (including Lockheed Martin, Government, and Contractors) regarding installation and design challenges.

Diagnose technical issues, identify solutions in line with product and customer specifications, and advise company or customer representatives on coordinated product resolutions.

Collaborate with planning yards on the development of Combat System Technical Data Packages.

Conduct technical assessments of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements in accordance with specific customer requirements.

Evaluate product needs based on customer specifications. Facilitate technical training and product briefings for customers, vendors, and company representatives.

Oversee the shipboard load-outs of combat systems equipment.

Perform inspections of combat system equipment and cabling during installation to identify issues and propose solutions.

Engage in design reviews and provide installation and operational support for Combat System Support Equipment (e.g., cooling systems, electronic dry air, etc.).


Implement equipment upgrades and ensure the completion of engineering field changes on the AEGIS Weapon System.

Act as the local on-site representative for the customer’s organization.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential.


This position may require up to 40% temporary and extended travel.


Shift work, brief at-sea periods, and occasional travel to support fleet emergent requirements and equipment installation events will be necessary.

Flexibility in hours, overtime, and occasional weekend and holiday work will be expected.
U.S. Citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Up to 50% travel per year is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in design, integration, and/or installation engineering with knowledge of CG 47, DDG 51, and/or FMS Aegis or other U.S. Navy surface ship combat system equipment.
  • Familiarity with Military Specifications and Standards related to equipment bonding and grounding on Navy Ships.
  • Understanding of the U.S. Navy Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and NAVSEA Technical Specifications.
  • Knowledge of military specifications for electrical and optical cable, connectors, and system design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, initiative, and teamwork abilities are required.
  • A final DoD Secret Security Clearance is necessary prior to starting this position.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of interface protocols, system design criteria, and equipment interactions.
  • Experience with Alteration Installation Team (AIT) installation and/or testing of Aegis upgrades.
  • Prior experience in ship repair facilities or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience with equipment engineering change installations.
  • Operational experience in the Aegis fleet is advantageous.
  • Experience with cable fabrication and testing.
  • Familiarity with soldering and wire wrap techniques.
  • Certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with Aegis systems and ship support systems is beneficial.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership in a collaborative team environment.

Lockheed Martin supports various alternate work schedules that provide flexibility to our employees.

These schedules may range from standard 40 hours over a five-day work week to condensed formats.

Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position varies based on location and experience.

Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate's work experience, education, and market considerations when extending an offer.
