Position Summary

This position is designed for registered nurses with over 12 months of experience. The role involves providing and coordinating comprehensive care to patients within a specific clinical area, functioning as an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse will utilize established care delivery models and professional practice standards as a framework for their nursing practice. Responsibilities include engaging in professional development activities and supporting unit-level goals.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in caring for the designated patient population; practice independently with a solid foundation of clinical knowledge and skills.
  2. Act as a clinical resource for colleagues.
  3. Integrate evidence-based practices into patient care.
  4. Effectively fulfill specific roles within the unit, such as emergency response or triage.
  5. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate patient care plans, advocating for patient and family needs.
  6. Model practices that align with unit operations to ensure safe and effective patient-centered care.

Professional Development:

  1. Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain competencies required for the clinical setting.
  2. Participate in unit-based staff development activities.
  3. Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
  4. Contribute to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
  5. Support the skills development of nursing support personnel.
  6. Complete continuing education requirements annually as per facility standards.

Quality and Safety:

  1. Understand and contribute to unit-based outcomes related to national quality measures.
  2. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research activities.
  3. Deliver high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while striving to exceed service expectations.
  4. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and participate in safety initiatives.

Operational Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to take on charge nurse responsibilities.
  2. Engage in team-building efforts within the unit.
  3. Participate in staff meetings and contribute to unit governance.
  4. Assist in recruitment and retention efforts at the unit level.
  5. Provide constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.

Qualifications

  1. Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility through compact state agreements.
  2. Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with demonstrated clinical skills.
  3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  4. Meet all unit-specific certification requirements.
