Position Summary
This position represents the foundational role for nurses with over 12 months of experience. The nurse will provide and coordinate comprehensive care to patients within a specialized clinical area, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The role requires adherence to the institution's care delivery and professional practice models, ensuring accountability to patients, families, and team members.
Key Responsibilities
I. Clinical Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate proficiency in managing the specific patient population of the unit, utilizing strong clinical skills and knowledge.
2. Act as a clinical resource for colleagues, fostering a collaborative environment.
3. Integrate evidence-based practices into daily care routines.
4. Effectively perform specialized roles pertinent to the unit, such as emergency response in critical care settings.
5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
6. Model practices that align with unit operations to ensure safe and effective patient care.
II. Professional Development
1. Engage in continuous professional growth and development.
2. Maintain required competencies for the designated patient care environment.
3. Participate in unit-based staff development initiatives.
4. Serve as a mentor and preceptor for new nurses and nursing students.
5. Contribute to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
6. Support the skills development of nursing support personnel.
7. Complete continuing education requirements annually as per facility standards.
III. Quality and Safety
1. Understand and contribute to unit-based outcomes related to national quality measures.
2. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research activities.
3. Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with a focus on exceeding service expectations.
4. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hold peers accountable.
5. Actively participate in patient safety initiatives and report any risks or adverse events.
IV. Operational Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate leadership capabilities in the charge nurse role.
2. Engage in team-building activities within the unit.
3. Contribute to staff meetings and unit governance.
4. Participate in recruitment and retention efforts at the unit level.
5. Provide constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.
Qualifications
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility under Compact state agreements.
2. Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competence.
3. Current AHA BLS certification is mandatory.
4. Fulfillment of unit-specific certification requirements is essential.
