Position: Registered Nurse (RN), Central Pool, Nights

Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM

I. General Summary

This position represents the foundational role for all nursing professionals with over 12 months of experience. The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering and coordinating independent patient care within a specialized clinical environment, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role emphasizes the application of the institution's care delivery and professional practice frameworks, ensuring accountability to patients, families, and colleagues.

II. Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in caring for the specific patient population; independently applies clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for peers.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into daily care.
  • Engages effectively in unit-specific roles, such as emergency response or triage.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Models best practices to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Professional Development:

  • Actively pursues opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Maintains required competencies for the specific patient care setting.
  • Participates in unit-based educational initiatives.
  • Serves as a mentor and preceptor for new nurses and students.
  • Contributes to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
  • Completes continuing education requirements annually.

Quality and Safety:

  • Understands and contributes to unit-based outcomes related to quality measures.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and research.
  • Delivers high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and participates in safety initiatives.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to take on charge nurse responsibilities.
  • Engages in team-building and contributes to staff meetings.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention efforts at the unit level.
  • Provides constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or eligibility through Compact state agreements.
  • A minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competence.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required.
  • Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements.
