Position Title

Registered Nurse (RN), Med Surg Ortho, Full-time, Nights

Shift: 7pm-7am

Sign-On Bonus: $15,000 with a 2-year commitment; restrictions may apply.

General Summary

This position represents the essential role for all nurses with over 12 months of experience. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates comprehensive care for patients within a specialized clinical area, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse utilizes the institution's care delivery models as a framework for professional practice, actively engaging in personal and group development initiatives. Accountability extends to patients, families, and team members for the care delivered, as well as to the nurse manager for overall performance.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in managing the specific patient population; practices independently with solid clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for colleagues.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into daily care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate patient care plans.
  • Advocates for patient and family needs effectively.
  • Ensures safe, timely, and patient-centered care.

Professional Development:

  • Engages in continuous professional growth and skill enhancement.
  • Maintains required competencies for the clinical setting.
  • Participates in unit-based staff development activities.
  • Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
  • Contributes to the development of orientation and educational programs.

Quality and Safety:

  • Understands and contributes to quality outcomes related to national healthcare measures.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Delivers high-quality, patient-centered care focused on exceeding expectations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and participates in safety initiatives.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities in charge nurse roles.
  • Engages in team-building activities within the unit.
  • Contributes to staff meetings and governance activities.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention efforts.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility through Compact state agreements.
  • Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required.
  • Must meet unit-specific certification requirements.
