Position Summary
This role is essential for nurses with over 12 months of experience. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates comprehensive care to patients within a specific clinical specialty, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Key Responsibilities
I. Clinical Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates proficiency in caring for the designated patient population, independently applying clinical knowledge and skills.
2. Acts as a clinical resource for colleagues, sharing expertise and best practices.
3. Integrates evidence-based practices into daily nursing activities.
4. Engages effectively in unit-specific roles, such as emergency response or triage.
5. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans, advocating for the needs of patients and families.
6. Ensures safe, effective, and patient-centered care aligned with unit operations.
II. Professional Development
1. Actively pursues opportunities for professional growth and skill enhancement.
2. Maintains required competencies for the specific patient care setting.
3. Participates in unit-based training and development initiatives.
4. Serves as a mentor and preceptor for new nurses and nursing students.
5. Contributes to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
6. Supports the professional development of nursing support staff.
7. Completes continuing education requirements annually.
III. Quality and Safety
1. Understands and contributes to unit outcomes related to national quality measures.
2. Engages in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice.
3. Provides high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, focusing on exceeding expectations.
4. Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and participates in quality assurance activities.
5. Takes proactive measures to enhance patient safety and report any incidents.
IV. Operational Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates leadership capabilities in the charge nurse role when required.
2. Engages in team-building and contributes to unit meetings.
3. Participates in governance activities at the unit and organizational levels.
4. Involves in recruitment and retention efforts within the nursing team.
5. Provides constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.
Qualifications
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility under compact state agreements.
2. Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
3. Current AHA BLS certification is mandatory.
4. Must fulfill all unit-specific certification requirements.
