Position Overview
I. General Summary
This position represents the foundational role for nurses with over a year of experience. The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering and coordinating patient care within a specific clinical specialty, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary care team. This role involves utilizing established care delivery models and professional practice standards while actively participating in personal and group practice development. The nurse is accountable for the quality of care provided to patients, families, and team members, adhering to the organization’s Service Standards and Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values.

The following responsibilities outline the essential functions of this role. This list is not exhaustive but highlights key duties.
Clinical Practice:
- Demonstrates proficiency in caring for the designated patient population; independently applies comprehensive knowledge and clinical skills.
- Acts as a clinical resource for colleagues.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into patient care.
- Effectively fulfills unit-specific roles, such as emergency response or triage.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans, advocating for patient and family needs.
- Models practices that ensure safe, timely, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Engages in ongoing professional growth and skill enhancement.
- Maintains competencies required for the clinical setting, focusing on personal development.
- Participates in unit-based staff development initiatives.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
- Supports the skill development of nursing support personnel.
- Completes continuing education requirements annually.
- Understands and contributes to unit-based outcomes related to quality measures and indicators.
- Participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Delivers high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, striving to exceed service expectations.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and participates in quality assurance activities.
- Takes proactive measures to address potential risks to patient safety.
- Reports incidents and near misses to appropriate authorities.
- Adheres to established policies and procedures in daily responsibilities.
- Fosters effective communication and collaboration with team members.
- Identifies and communicates potential risks in clinical processes.
- Engages in safety initiatives at the hospital and departmental levels.
- Demonstrates capability in the charge nurse role as needed.
- Participates in team-building activities within the unit.
- Contributes to regular staff meetings and briefings.

- Participates in recruitment and retention efforts for nursing staff.
- Provides constructive feedback during peer reviews as directed.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility under Compact state agreements.
- Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
- Meets all unit-specific certification requirements.
