Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated part-time Assistant Coach for the Men's Volleyball Program who will collaborate closely with the Director of Athletics. This role is essential in assisting the Head Coach with various responsibilities, including volleyball training, team practices, competitions, travel arrangements, recruitment, and monitoring student-athlete eligibility and academic performance.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Participating in mandatory meetings and events as directed by the Athletic Director.
  • Actively recruiting skilled student-athletes from the local area.
  • Coordinating campus visits and interactions with college administrators for prospective recruits.
  • Representing the volleyball program at college events and community functions.
  • Ensuring all student-athletes have up-to-date physical records before joining the volleyball program.
  • Assisting in the development or revision of a comprehensive volleyball program handbook that outlines objectives, guidelines, and team expectations.
  • Organizing and leading daily conditioning and sport-specific training sessions.
  • Transporting student-athletes to off-campus competitions and events using college vehicles.
  • Monitoring student-athlete conduct and ensuring academic eligibility.
  • Managing the procurement, inventory, distribution, and return of all equipment and uniforms assigned to student-athletes.
  • Building relationships with volleyball organizations, high school coaches, and players.
  • Regularly reviewing and adhering to the regulations outlined in the Region XIX and GSAC Sports Operating Code, as well as NJCAA bylaws.
  • Implementing and ensuring compliance with all program regulations, policies, and procedures established by the NJCAA, GSAC, and Passaic County Community College.
  • Updating team rosters, statistics, scores, and other required information on the Region XIX and NJCAA National websites.
  • Assisting in the coordination of travel, meals, and team meetings as necessary.
  • Helping to schedule team practices and off-season training sessions.
  • Organizing community service initiatives and fundraising activities for the team.
  • Serving as a positive role model for student-athletes and participating in committees related to student affairs.
  • Nominating student-athletes for intercollegiate awards and recognitions.
  • Supporting student-athletes in their transition to higher levels of competition and education.
  • Maintaining regular communication with student-athletes and the Director of Athletics throughout the contract period, including the off-season.
  • Exhibiting leadership in promoting student engagement, retention, academic progress, and community outreach.
  • Taking proactive measures to ensure operational needs and program integrity are maintained during challenging times.
  • Following directives from the Director of Athletics to support the mission of the sports program and department.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma; an Associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • Experience in coaching or playing volleyball with a proven track record of success.
  • Prior coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level is highly desirable.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification is necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit student-athletes within and beyond the local area.
  • Understanding and application of sports compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with NJCAA rules and regulations is preferred.
