Museum Registrar Job Description

The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus is seeking a highly skilled Museum Registrar to join our team. As a key member of our Art Museum, you will be responsible for overseeing the documentation, maintenance, transportation, and exhibition of our art collection, as well as loans. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work well with interdepartmental teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular collections inventories to verify the physical presence and condition of objects in the collection.
  • Maintain accurate records of where each object is located within storage facilities or exhibition spaces.
  • Develop and manage annual budget preparation and reporting for leadership.
  • Coordinate with contractors and assist with vendor management.
  • Ensure digital access to collections records for internal use, research, and public inquiries where appropriate.
  • Manage physical archives of historical documentation, including past exhibition records, correspondence, and research materials.
  • Assess risk to the collection and update documentation accordingly to mitigate potential threats.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Museum Studies or Art History.
  • 24 months of museum registration and/or collection management experience.
  • Valid Driver's License to drive university vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Museum Studies or Art History.
  • Three - Five years experience in museum registration and collection management.
  • Knowledge of File Maker systems collection database.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and unexpected situations.
