Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Design Engineer to join our team at Waveguide Communications. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and implementing complex technical solutions for our maritime clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and verify the functionality of specialized testing devices and system-defined standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with our design team to complete all required documents and bills of materials, scopes of work, and contractor work plans.
  • Provide technical assistance to other design engineers and project leads as required.
  • Conduct pre- and post-project reviews with project leads to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop and implement turnkey solutions for customers, including design, installation, and testing.
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of cabling infrastructure and electronic components required for networking.
  • Knowledge of marine governing bodies such as DNV and ABS, as well as EIA/TIA codes and BICSI standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and Visio.
  • Proficiency in basic electrical theory and practices.
  • Understanding of rules and regulations applicable to each job site.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional movement around the job site, lifting/moving equipment up to 40 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools, including diagnostic and testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Minimum levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Travel to locations involving exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions, uneven surfaces, and indoor environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on lifts higher than 100 ft.
  • Ability to work standing/walking for prolonged periods in excess of 8 hours.

  • Ability to reason and think logically.

  • Ability to work with others to collectively solve problems.
  • Ability to multitask several projects and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to systematically maintain engineering records and archives.

  • Ability to read a variety of correspondences, manuals, instructions, journals, etc.
  • Ability to utilize basic mathematics, including decimals and percentages, English-to-metric conversions.
  • Ability to effectively interface and collaborate with customers.
  • Willingness to travel for customer sites, meetings, conferences, and expositions.
  • Ability to present themselves and their work in a professional manner to management and customers.
  • Ability to prepare and complete forms, reports, documentation, etc., and apply basic rules of grammar, punctuation, dictation, and style.
  • Ability to communicate and direct people to convey or exchange information.
  • Fields of vision required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to differentiate between specific colors and shades of colors on cable wires, etc.
  • Ability to acquire continuing education on new industry practices and procedures.
Education and Computer Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED supplemented by either an Associate's Degree in a related field or vocation training in an applicable field.
  • Relevant work experience of 7 to 10 years can be substituted for an education requirement.
Travel Requirements
  • Ability to travel outside the U.S. for periods up to two months.
  • Financial self-sufficiency to support yourself for discretionary spending as well as incidental business expenses.
  • Possession of a credit card and a U.S. bank account.
  • Ability to pass a background check through local Port Authorities.
  • Possession or ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Ability to obtain applicable Port badge.
  • Attendance at offshore safety training.
