Job Overview

Position Title: Youth Engagement Specialist

Employment Type: Part-Time Hourly, 12-20 hours per week

Compensation: $17.40 per hour

Reports To: Youth Program Director

Role Purpose: The Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff is seeking dedicated Youth Engagement Specialists for our after-school initiatives. We depend on the commitment of compassionate staff to create a secure and supportive atmosphere where children can thrive.

Under the guidance of the Youth Program Director, you will oversee program areas and offer young individuals a fun and secure environment that promotes academic achievement, character development, leadership skills, and healthy living. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with youth and is eager to engage in all activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Fostering Youth Success

Create an environment conducive to achieving Youth Development Outcomes by:

  • Encouraging and enhancing participation in designated programs
  • Supporting youth in setting goals and developing skills
  • Providing guidance and serving as a role model
  • Offering mentorship to youth (balancing authority and friendship)
  • Ensuring proper supervision of youth in your care

Program Development & Implementation

Enable BGCF to deliver high-quality, age-appropriate programs by:

  • Conducting daily outcome-focused activities for youth
  • Monitoring and assessing assigned programs, services, and activities to guarantee member safety, program quality, and facility appearance
  • Preparing weekly progress reports, administering surveys, tracking advancements, and continuously improving assigned programs
  • Providing regular updates to direct supervisors regarding program activities, including weekly progress reports

Supporting Site Operations

Collaborate with your team to promote organizational success by:

  • Maintaining child safety standards and encouraging active youth participation in programs
  • Engaging with youth and staff as necessary
  • Committing to professional growth by completing all required training
  • Assisting with regular facility upkeep, including cleaning, organizing, and managing Club property
  • Transporting youth from schools to the Club site as needed
  • Checking in youth upon arrival at the Club site as required
  • Answering phone calls and welcoming visitors as necessary
  • Assisting parents with various inquiries and tasks as needed

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess valid identification.
  • Previous experience working with youth and willingness to engage with all age groups.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Secondary education credits.
  • Experience in youth program planning.
  • Customer service skills for interacting with community partners and parents.
  • Ability to organize program areas and solve problems effectively.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently walks and stands for extended periods. Occasionally, the employee may need to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee is required to drive a vehicle for extended periods. Specific vision abilities required by this role include depth perception. The employee must also sit for periods to perform computer functions and actively participate in program areas.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee may also encounter wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment typically ranges from moderate to high.
