Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Creating and assessing models of gray and green infrastructure utilizing Amanzi-ATS, a sophisticated process-based hydrologic modeling tool.
  • Applying these models to investigate the impacts of climate change, land use alterations, and infrastructure development scenarios on flooding risks in Southeast Texas over the coming decades.
  • Conducting hypothesis-driven numerical experiments to analyze the evolving risks associated with compound flooding, integrating data and hydrologic understanding with modeling efforts, and authoring scholarly articles to present findings.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders and design experts to co-create flood mitigation strategies and assess their effectiveness through modeling, thereby informing regional climate and flood management initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in hydrology, applied mathematics, civil/environmental engineering, or a related discipline obtained within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: flood modeling, integrated surface-subsurface hydrologic modeling, impacts of green or gray infrastructure on hydrology, coastal hydrology, or high-performance computing.
  • Proficiency in using hydrologic or hydrodynamic models; experience in model development is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ and Fortran for model development, as well as Python or GIS for model evaluation and workflow management.
  • Experience in processing and utilizing large, complex datasets is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive self-starter capable of working independently and contributing creatively within collaborative teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic research environment, prioritize tasks effectively, and adapt to evolving project needs.

Candidates must have completed all degree requirements prior to the commencement of their appointment. The initial appointment duration is up to 24 months, with potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.
