Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our team in the Orthopaedics department at the University of New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical patient care and a specialization in orthopaedics, with a focus on total joints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population under general supervision.
  • Consult and advise others as a highly-specialized practitioner.
  • Supervise support staff in an out-of-hours or remote clinical setting.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients.
  • Implement treatment, follow-up, and evaluate patient care within the scope of practice protocols.
  • Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions.
  • Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Help make handouts for patients and update intake forms.
  • Reach out to pre-op and post-op patients and process prescriptions.
  • Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plans with patients and families as necessary.
  • Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatment.
  • Occasionally assist in surgery and perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Requirements
  • CPR certification.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in clinical patient care.
  • Experience with EMR Cerner Software.
  • Two years plus directly related experience.
  • Specialization in orthopaedics; total joint experience a plus.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, advanced practice providers, and ambulatory staff.
  • Ability to act as a role model through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to overcome and learn a challenging EHR.
