Job Summary

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the department's involvement in the university, as well as the state and region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for the department's clinical, educational, and research programs
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the department's mission and goals
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Manage departmental resources and budget to ensure effective use of resources
  • Represent the department and the university in various external settings
Requirements
  • MD, MD-PhD, DO, or equivalent medical degree and Board Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Demonstrated expertise appropriate for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine
  • At least five years of administrative and leadership experience in an academic institution
  • Eligibility for licensure in New Mexico and eligibility to work in the United States

  • High integrity and a significant record of achievement in academic medicine
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical service, surgical activity, and clinical respect
  • Ability to create a collaborative vision for the department's missions through innovation and growth
  • Proven leadership and experience in managing a complex clinical, research, and educational enterprise
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to foster collaboration, teamwork, and creativity
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion of student, faculty, and staff success
