Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population. Provides consultation and advice to others as a highly-specialized practitioner. May supervise support staff in an out-of-hours or remote clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Seeing patients in clinic, helping total joints surgeons in clinic. Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans, implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute.
  • Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions. Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Help make handouts for patients, and update intake forms. Reach out to both pre-op and post-op patients and process prescriptions.
  • Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health.
  • Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment.
  • Occasional first assist in surgery. Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Requirements
  • CPR certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.
  • Certification/Licensure: Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant or State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.
