Senior Practice Group Marketing Manager

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Practice Group Marketing Manager to drive market analysis, client development, and strategic business planning for our top-rated law firm client's Regional Corporate & Emerging Companies/Venture Capital (ECVC) sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct market analyses to determine our regional general corporate and emerging companies and venture capital (ECVC) market share and opportunities, informing business plans and go-to-market strategies.
  • Present the firm's competitive positioning in the market through research and analysis of competitors, including lateral activity, thought leadership, events, news/experience, and league tables.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of local clients and prospective clients through financial, experience, marketing client engagement, and competitor representation data analysis.
  • Serve as the marketing subject matter expert for the market.
Client Targeting and New Business Development:
  • Oversee priority projects for targeting new business for the regional general corporate and ECVC practice, advising lawyers on strategies for developing business from target companies and relationships.
  • Collaborate with specialists to develop cross-selling strategies and oversee their execution.
  • Advise lawyers on new business opportunities from regional targeting initiatives and client expansion programs, providing support on developing our approach, team, proposition, and supporting materials.
Strategic Business Planning and Reporting:
  • Consult with regional corporate leaders, partners in charge, regional litigation leadership, and marketing & BD colleagues to develop and implement strategic plans and marketing budgets aligning with global practice group goals and objectives.
  • Proactively manage the implementation and execution of strategic plans with regional corporate leaders, partners in charge, and regional litigation leadership, including periodic meetings and overseeing specialists preparing reports, analysis, and progress monitoring.
Profile Raising, Marketing Campaigns, and Events:
  • Develop strong relationships with associations and industry organizations that attract and engage prospective clients, influencers, and referral sources in support of business plan goals.
  • Develop event strategy for the market based on market and competitive analyses and in support of business plan goals.
  • Report on the success of activities with key stakeholders and provide recommendations for future.
  • Collaborate with the PR team to advance the profile-raising efforts of the market.
  • Partner with marketing colleagues to advise on content for regional surveys, specific lawyer and practice awards, and accolades.
  • Support the integration of lateral lawyers into general corporate or ECVC practices within the market.
  • Oversee specialists in maintaining a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, industry conferences, programs, appearances, and other market engagement opportunities, ensuring maximum ROI and appropriate coverage from lawyers and BD professionals.
  • Closely collaborate and strategize with global practice group marketing colleagues to understand additional planned activity in the assigned market and maximize collaboration and ROI on all activities.
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensuring compliance with assigned work hours and monitoring for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review, and process time logs/time off requests.
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the immediate supervisor and Central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination, and other employee lifecycle events.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of marketing-related experience in the field with 3+ years of management experience in relevant roles. Proven ability to operate at a more senior level in terms of scope of responsibility, judgment, and independent nature.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed work environment.
  • After orientation, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage, Salesforce, and other firm applications.
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field.
  • Experience working in a law firm or other professional services organization.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong project management skills and follow-through ability.
  • Demonstrate great initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the firm.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Keen ability to capture, distill, and accurately describe the legal expertise and value of the firm, its practices, and individual attorneys.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to anticipate problems as well as suggest and execute on solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing tasks and significant projects as well as manage expectations of attorneys in relation to these projects.
  • Strong client service ethic and interpersonal skills, capable of working seamlessly with high-level partners, marketing staff, and colleagues in other administrative departments.
  • Highly organized, efficient, and extremely detail-oriented, with superior proofreading and fact-checking skills.
  • Capable of staying productive and accurate under pressure with tight deadlines.
