About the Department

The Department of Computer Science at George Mason University is a fast-growing force for innovation in research and education. The department has 25 teaching-track faculty and 56 tenured and tenure-track faculty with wide-ranging research interests, and strong research groups in cybersecurity, systems and networks, machine learning and data mining, artificial intelligence, robotics, visual computing, theory, databases, bioinformatics, HCI, and software engineering.

About the Position

The Department of Computer Science invites applications for multiple term faculty positions. Candidates to this position will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses; participate in university, college, and departmental governance; professional and public service; advising students; and performing related instructional assignments such as supervising senior projects, student internships, and practicum.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Service: advises students; participates in all aspects of the department's mission; and serves the profession;
  • Research: conducts research in computer science and related fields;
  • Service: participates in departmental and university service activities.

Qualifications

Applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor must have received a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field. Applicants who have received an MS in computer science or a related field by the start date of the position, will be considered for Instructor positions. Demonstrated potential for excellence and a commitment to high-quality teaching. Applicants should possess a strong commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Applicants at the rank of Associate or Full Professor must have interests in outreach, curriculum development, and significant experience in an academic setting in teaching for at least six years post Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants at all ranks and in all areas of computer science, broadly defined, will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., teaching experience, and a record of peer-reviewed publications. Administrative and/or managerial experience is a plus. Applicants who can build collaborations with other departments within the College and across the University will benefit from the strong support and encouragement for interdisciplinary collaboration with the College and the University.
