About the Department:
The Department of Bioengineering at Mason is comprised of 12 faculty members whose research spans four primary areas: biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, biomaterials and nanomedicine, and neurotechnology and computational neuroscience. The department boasts state-of-the-art research facilities that were established in 2018, and its research initiatives are supported by various federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, resulting in over $20 million in active research funding. The undergraduate program is ABET-accredited and serves more than 210 students, complemented by a rapidly expanding PhD program and a newly launched master's program. The department also collaborates with regional centers and universities and hosts two specialized centers focused on adaptive systems and neural informatics.
About the Position:
The Department of Bioengineering is seeking qualified candidates for a term faculty role commencing in Fall 2024.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and developing both undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in university and departmental governance, providing professional and public service, advising students, and overseeing related instructional activities such as senior projects and internships.
Candidates applying for the Associate or Full Professor ranks should have a strong interest in outreach and curriculum development, along with a minimum of six years of teaching experience in an academic environment following the completion of their PhD.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in bioengineering;
- Engage in service activities: advise students, contribute to the department's mission, and serve the professional community.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants for the Assistant/Associate or Full Professor positions must hold a PhD in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field by the position's start date. Candidates with an MS in Bioengineering or a related field may be considered for Instructor roles. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and experience in one or more of the department's research pillars is essential. Candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level should also demonstrate interests in outreach and curriculum development, along with significant teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates from all areas of bioengineering and biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply, particularly those with expertise in biomechanics, biomaterials, computational biomedicine, physiological modeling, bioinstrumentation, electronics, and imaging. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD, teaching experience, and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Administrative or managerial experience is advantageous. The department values diversity and encourages applications from candidates who can engage students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
