Job Overview:

Schlumberger-Doll Research (SDR) is in search of a nuclear physicist dedicated to advancing the Energy Transition through innovative modeling techniques. Nuclear measurements play a pivotal role in the characterization of the Earth's subsurface, and with decades of expertise, SLB is at the forefront of developing the hardware and algorithms necessary for in-situ measurements deep underground. Our technologies are integral to various aspects of the ongoing Energy Transition, including CO2 Storage, Critical Minerals, and the secure abandonment of fossil fuels, with nuclear science being a vital component of our portfolio.

As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be instrumental in creating new models and algorithms that leverage nuclear physics to address real-world challenges. Your role will involve providing the physical insights and computational skills necessary to harness nuclear measurements across diverse datasets. This full-time Research Scientist position is situated within the Geosciences department at SDR, where we merge expertise in geophysical, mathematical, computational, and engineering sciences. Our projects tackle the technical challenges and global market demands of the emerging sectors focused on Decarbonization and the Energy Transition. You will have access to extensive datasets and computing infrastructure, both on-site and in the cloud.

As a valued member of our team, you will collaborate with experts locally and globally to develop nuclear models, derive new insights from nuclear measurements, and integrate your algorithms into commercial solutions.

We encourage our scientists to publish their research findings, present at conferences, and pursue patent protection for their innovations.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines, with coursework and preferably thesis work focused on modeling and analysis of nuclear data.
  • A strong passion for physical simulations and data interpretation, with a knack for combining scientific inquiry and computing to extract meaningful insights. Familiarity with MCNP or Geant is preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, C++, or similar, with experience in machine learning and data science considered an asset.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and effective communication. A collaborative spirit is essential, as you will work alongside a team of scientists and engineers.
  • Authorization to reside and work in the US is required.
