Job Overview:

Schlumberger-Doll Research (SDR) is seeking a dedicated nuclear physicist with a strong interest in modeling to contribute to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions. Nuclear measurement techniques are crucial for the characterization of subsurface environments. Leveraging decades of expertise, SLB develops innovative hardware and algorithms for in-situ measurements deep underground. Our technologies play a vital role in various aspects of the ongoing Energy Transition, including CO2 storage, critical minerals extraction, and the safe decommissioning of fossil fuel operations. Nuclear science is an integral component of our comprehensive portfolio.

As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be instrumental in developing novel models and algorithms that utilize nuclear physics to address real-world challenges. Your expertise will provide the necessary physical insights and computational skills to harness nuclear measurements across diverse datasets. This full-time Research Scientist role is situated within the Geosciences department at SDR, where we merge expertise in geophysical, mathematical, computational, and engineering disciplines. Our projects tackle the technical challenges and global market demands of the emerging sectors focused on decarbonization and the Energy Transition. Extensive datasets and computing resources are readily available both on-site and in the cloud.

As a successful team member, you will collaborate with experts locally and globally to create nuclear models, derive new insights from nuclear measurements, and integrate your algorithms into commercial applications.

We encourage our scientists to publish their research findings, present their work at conferences, and pursue patent protection.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or related fields, with coursework and preferably thesis work focused on modeling and analysis of nuclear data.
  • Strong enthusiasm for physical simulations and data interpretation, with a passion for combining scientific inquiry and computing to extract meaningful insights. Experience with MCNP or Geant is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, C++, or similar. Familiarity with machine learning and data science is a plus.
  • Proven problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. You are a motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment with scientists and engineers.
  • Authorization to reside and work in the US.
