INVESTMENT RISK ASSESSMENT ANALYST
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
This role will collaborate closely with the CNR Manager Research team to facilitate and support Investment and Operational Risk Assessment functions.
The team for this position oversees City National Rochdale's (CNR) non-proprietary investment strategies, the development of new products for both CNR and external investment managers, sub-advisory partnerships, and investment analysis, including portfolio modeling.
Utilizing resources across the organization, this team will conduct and/or supervise the manager research and due diligence efforts for approved mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), separately managed accounts (SMAs), and alternative managers and strategies.
The position will also entail oversight of Operational Risk Assessment for various investment vehicles.

Responsibilities will include understanding the controls necessary for compliance with relevant regulations, identifying pertinent issues, designing solutions, establishing required controls, and monitoring, while leveraging industry best practices and coordinating with colleagues throughout the organization.

This role is expected to contribute positively and balance challenges, supporting the alignment of business objectives with CNB's risk appetite and established limits.
What you will do:
- Assist with investment risk assessment, selection, and monitoring of traditional managers for use in CNR's open architecture platform and proprietary sub-advised strategies.
- Participate in the process of identifying and researching alternative managers and strategies, including private funds and other partnership structures.
- Aid in the maintenance of CNR Approved Manager Lists, update quarterly reports and manager profiles, and serve as the primary contact for specific external managers and strategies.
- Support the maintenance of all necessary documentation for regulatory requirements associated with Investment and Operational Risk Assessment (IDD/ODD) for fund investments.
- Conduct regular research calls, maintain due diligence questionnaires, and assist with policy and procedure documentation.
- Undertake special project assignments as requested by senior members of the Manager Research team, such as periodic publications, asset class research, and manager selection analysis.
- Support the regulatory requirements of maintaining research records, including fraud oversight, news alerts, and manager lists (initial, approved, terminated, etc.).
- Provide investment-related support such as performance attribution records, style analysis, and peer performance reviews.
- Offer operational diligence-related support, including service provider records and change logs among approved strategies.
- Represent the Wealth Management business as the first line of defense (1LOD) and assist with 2LOD Review & Challenge to provide adequate guidance during testing periods and on a daily basis.
- Contribute to the development of a robust risk culture, risk conduct, and risk literacy within the 1LOD, including the design and implementation of preventive and detective controls related to Wealth Management Research activities (establishing compliance-related controls).
- Prioritize organizational risk management objectives.
- Participate in special projects as necessary.
- Assist with audit and examination preparation activities.
Must-Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent 5+ years of Investment Research experience in both Traditional and Alternative Investments.
  • Skills and Knowledge: CFA, CAIA, and/or MBA or progress is encouraged, but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; Python or similar programming experience or interest is a plus.
  • Experience with structuring and building quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, FactSet is a plus.
  • Project Management, SharePoint, Power BI, and automation experience is a plus.
  • Investment Management experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels in a collaborative manner, achieving goals without direct control over resources.
  • Strong emerging end-to-end generalist problem-solving skills, including defining and deconstructing problems, prioritizing issues and analysis, and structuring and building quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses.
  • Knowledge in Financial Services.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence change, build relationships, communicate effectively, work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality results.
Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
An outstanding ability to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches, communicate effectively and confidently (both oral and written), and work well in cross-functional teams.
Quick learning ability, exceptional analytical skills, and a structured way of thinking, with remarkable attention to detail.
Ability to operate well under stress, even when faced with tight timelines for ambitious deliverables.
Significant experience in driving operational change with personnel from frontline to senior leadership.
Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to handle uncertainty well and simplify complexity.
Compensation: Starting base salary: $101,325 - $172,568 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
