About the Position

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as an Assistant Director for Orientation in the New Student and Family Programs department. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong understanding of student development, program management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive orientation programs for new students and families, ensuring a seamless transition to university life.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver engaging and inclusive programs that promote student success and retention.
  • Supervise and train a team of student coordinators, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of orientation programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and student leaders, to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure effective program delivery and evaluation.
  • Conduct program evaluations and assessments to inform future program development and improvement.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in student affairs, program management, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful programs that promote student success and retention.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably in student affairs or a related field.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote inclusive practices.
