Job Overview

SUMMARY:

The primary objective of this role is to facilitate a youth-focused, outcome-driven approach that emphasizes the continuous evaluation of young individuals' requirements for services aimed at achieving their educational and career aspirations. Career Engagement Specialists / Career Coaches deliver case management, inspire participants, coordinate resources, and provide guidance to prepare youth for post-secondary education, vocational training, and employment opportunities.

Effective communication skills are essential, alongside a proactive work ethic. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the capability to engage with individuals from varied backgrounds and implement strategies that foster self-sufficiency. Proficiency in creating and managing documentation within a database is necessary, along with skills in general report writing. A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A valid California Driver's License and proof of auto insurance are required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution; or one to two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; AND/OR
  • Preferably one year of experience in vocational counseling, employment assistance, case management, outreach, or program marketing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret various documents.
  • Capability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with groups of clients or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform calculations for accounting purposes.
  • Ability to compute hours worked for payroll purposes.
  • Ability to apply basic bookkeeping and record-keeping principles.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written and oral forms.
  • Ability to address problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to research solutions and resolve issues independently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of each participant's progress to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Facilitate access to academic support services.
  • Identify career and employment objectives to determine the need for direct placement or work experience opportunities.
  • Educate participants about alternative secondary school options and post-secondary education pathways.
  • Ensure that educational opportunities are provided concurrently with workforce preparation.
  • Promote leadership development through community service and peer-education activities that foster responsibility and positive social behaviors.
  • Assist participants in overcoming barriers by providing supportive services or connecting them with appropriate resources, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Provide adult mentoring during and after program participation through follow-up services that support successful outcomes, documented through case notes.
  • Help youth secure and maintain employment.
  • Document and retain performance accountability indicators.
  • Ensure participants adhere to their Individualized Education Plans/Individual Service Strategies.
  • Facilitate work readiness skills training to promote a positive work ethic and successful job retention.
  • Assist in resume development to enhance participants' employment opportunities.
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual performance operation goals and reports.
  • Facilitate one-on-one counseling, workshops, and orientations to support work readiness.
  • Maintain connections with local educational systems to provide options for basic skills training and other services to help participants overcome barriers to sustainable employment.
  • Prioritize career pathways for participants seeking employment.
  • Perform data entry into the Workforce Investment System and stay informed about system changes and best practices.
  • Document participants' acquisition of skills, knowledge, and experience as necessary.
  • Manage individual fund tracking to allocate participant expenses accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure the facilitation of monthly services and activities through comprehensive strategies to enhance program retention.
  • Provide a continuum of services that reflect a progressive sequence of activities, allowing individuals to experience success and increased responsibility, all of which must be documented in case notes.
  • Direct program development and priorities to ensure all participants receive individualized, comprehensive, and integrated services that provide the necessary opportunities, preparation, and support for successful transitions to sustainable career paths or educational focuses.
  • Complete closure processes when participants achieve their goals, including detailed case notes and transition plans for follow-up.
  • Follow protocols to safeguard all personally identifiable information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position reports to the Site Coordinator and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
