Role Responsibilities

The Culinary Service Associate plays a crucial role in executing various food service tasks, which include delivering outstanding customer service, performing kitchen operations, assembling patient meals, preparing menu items, and serving meals. The position requires a service-oriented individual with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound decision-making abilities. Internal interactions primarily occur within departmental teams and management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to safety protocols when handling hot food items.
  • Ensuring sanitation standards are met in accordance with state laws and organizational policies.
  • Documenting equipment and food temperatures as mandated by state regulations.
  • Preparing and packaging breakfast and snack items in collaboration with procurement.
  • Managing proper storage and labeling of food containers and items.
  • Collecting food deliveries from vendors as notified.
  • Setting up and preparing for lunch and dinner services, ensuring compliance with food handling standards.
  • Verifying meal items against the posted menu and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Serving meals to patients while accommodating special dietary needs.
  • Conducting basic cleanup post-meal service, including dishwashing and sanitizing work areas.
  • Providing beverages and snacks to patients as permitted by their dietary restrictions.
  • Assisting staff in preparing water for patients.
  • Supporting dietary specialists in completing food service tracers.
  • Maintaining food safety and hygiene practices as required by law and policy.
  • Upholding attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Contributing to the organization's success by meeting competency expectations and core values.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels and with the public.
  • Knowledge and skills to foster a trauma-informed, safe, and healing environment.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. A valid food handler's card for the state of Washington is required. Previous experience in institutional or restaurant food service is preferred.

Additional Information

Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications, including Outlook and Word, along with the ability to manage online scheduling.

Physical Demands: The role may require lifting up to 15 lbs and sitting for extended periods.

Work Environment: Employees may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and must adhere to infection control policies.
