Job Overview

Position Summary

The Clinical Support Technician (CST) is an integral part of the healthcare team, working under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor or Manager, nursing staff, therapists, or Directors. This role involves assisting in patient care, maintaining documentation, and managing supplies within the clinic or outpatient setting. The CST collaborates with Medical Assistants to enhance the delivery of patient care.

The CST is also responsible for ensuring that the unit is well-stocked, tidy, and organized. In addition to clinical duties, the CST may perform administrative tasks, including answering phones and addressing inquiries from patients and their families. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare is essential. The CST will provide care across various age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Duties
* Escort patients from the waiting area to examination rooms, providing updates on any delays in appointment schedules. Assist in the transportation of patients, equipment, and supplies.

Support the transfer of patients with mobility restrictions or impairments.

Measure vital signs and gather basic patient history.

Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures, including cast or splint applications and other medical tasks within the PCT's scope of practice.

Guide patients through urine collection procedures.

Maintain cleanliness in the department, ensuring proper protocols are followed after treatments.

Manage inventory of equipment and supplies.

Follow safety guidelines related to contact precautions and bloodborne pathogens.

Comply with regulatory and organizational standards impacting patient care and safety, ensuring cost-effective practices.

Assist patients with the application and removal of compression garments as necessary.

Support clinicians with dressing changes as directed.


Comprehensive Care/Wound Care Responsibilities
* Monitor patients for skin integrity and report any concerns to supervising clinicians.

Assist patients with daily living activities, including toileting as required.

Facilitate patient mobility under the direction of supervising clinicians, including therapeutic exercises.


Administrative Duties
* Answer and prioritize incoming calls on the administrative line, effectively communicating with callers to assess their needs.

Ensure accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the appropriate systems.

Maintain departmental records and manage patient charts as requested.


Educational Responsibilities
* Demonstrate knowledge of the Department's Standards of Care and Administrative Policies, including the ability to locate the Policy and Procedures manual.

Utilize nursing process guidelines in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations, performing at a competent level.

Engage in personal development and professional interactions with peers and students.


Compliance and Safety
* Report safety incidents promptly using the designated reporting tools; participate in safety training programs; perform work safely; monitor the work environment for safety issues and ensure compliance among colleagues.

Stay informed and comply with state and federal regulations and company policies relevant to the role.

Maintain all required certifications and licenses, ensuring they are current and valid.

Complete all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within the required timeframe.


Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required

Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program - Required


Certifications & Licenses
Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in Arizona - Required

BLS certification (American Heart Association) - Required

Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance - Required

Fingerprint Clearance:
If the employee does not possess an Arizona LNA license:
- Fingerprint Clearance Card application number - Required upon hire
- Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 90 days of hire


Employees must maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by their departmental leader.


Experience
