Position Summary
The Operating Room Scrub Technician plays a crucial role in the surgical team, operating under the guidance of the Director and/or Clinical Manager. This position is responsible for the preparation of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring that all necessary supplies are ready for procedures. The Scrub Technician is integral to the surgical process, assisting in patient care and ensuring a sterile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Support
* Effectively prioritizes technical requirements to align with patient needs.
Collaborates with the healthcare team during surgical interventions, applying knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures.
Ensures safe patient care throughout the intra-operative phase, including proper handling of specimens and medications.
Instrument and Equipment Management
* Prepares and organizes surgical instruments, sutures, and supplies tailored to specific procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
Regularly maintains and replenishes equipment and supplies as necessary.
Opens surgical instruments appropriately for each case, anticipating the surgeon's requirements.
Collaboration with Departments
* Accurately communicates provider preferences to nursing staff.
Facilitates efficient turnover of surgical rooms by ensuring the availability of necessary instruments and supplies.
Assists in updating physician preference cards as needed.
Participates in the training and education of new staff regarding aseptic techniques and procedures.
Compliance and Safety
* Adheres to all regulatory and organizational standards impacting patient care and safety, as well as hospital policies.
Maintains current knowledge of state and federal regulations relevant to the role.
Ensures all required certifications and licenses are valid and up-to-date.
Completes mandatory training and job-specific education within designated timeframes.
Maintains accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
Responsible for timely reporting of safety incidents and actively participates in safety training programs.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of OR Technician training - Preferred
Certification and Licensure
BLS - Required upon hire
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of experience as an OR Technician or completion of a recognized OR Technician training program - Required
