Job Overview

Position Summary

The Clinical Support Technician (CST) plays a vital role in the healthcare environment, working under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor or Manager, nursing staff, therapists, or Directors. This position is essential for facilitating patient care, maintaining accurate documentation, and managing supplies within the clinic or outpatient department. The CST collaborates closely with Medical Assistants to enhance the delivery of patient services.

The CST is also responsible for ensuring that the unit is well-stocked, orderly, and hygienic. This role may include office support functions, such as answering phone calls and addressing inquiries from patients or their families. Compliance with all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare is mandatory. The CST will engage in tasks that align with the scope of practice for this role, alongside administrative responsibilities. The position may involve caring for diverse patient populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Support
* Assists patients from the waiting area to examination rooms, providing updates on any delays in appointment schedules. Aids in the transportation of patients, equipment, and supplies.
* Aids in the transfer of patients with mobility restrictions.
* Measures vital signs and gathers essential patient history.
* Prepares patients for examinations and assists with various medical procedures within the technician's knowledge base.
* Educates patients on urine collection methods.
* Ensures cleanliness in the department, adhering to protocols for post-treatment clean-up.
* Maintains inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
* Follows safety guidelines regarding contact precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
* Complies with all regulatory and organizational standards impacting patient care and safety, while practicing in a safe and cost-effective manner.
* Assists patients with compression garment application as necessary.
* Aids in dressing removal as directed by the supervising clinician.

Wound Care and Daily Living Support
* Monitors patients for skin integrity and communicates any concerns to supervising clinicians.
* Supports patients with daily living activities, including toileting as required.
* Assists patients with mobility exercises under the supervision of clinical staff.

Administrative Duties
* Handles incoming administrative phone calls, prioritizing and addressing caller needs effectively.
* Demonstrates accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the appropriate systems.
* Maintains departmental records and manages patient charts as needed.

Educational Development
* Understands and adheres to the Department's Standards of Care and Administrative Policies, including the ability to locate the Policy and Procedures manual.
* Utilizes care guidelines and practices in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing regulations, demonstrating full competency.
* Engages in personal development and professional interactions with colleagues and students.

Compliance and Safety
* Responsible for timely reporting of safety incidents using the designated reporting tools; participates in safety training programs; ensures a safe working environment.
* Remains updated on state and federal regulations affecting the role and adheres to company policies.
* Ensures all required certifications and licenses are current and valid.
* Completes mandatory training and job-specific modules within the designated timeframe.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program - Required

Certifications & Licenses
Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in Arizona - Required
BLS Certification (American Heart Association) - Required
Fingerprint Clearance:
If not holding an Arizona LNA license:
- Fingerprint Clearance Card application number - Required upon hire
- Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 90 days of hire

Employees are expected to maintain appropriate clinical competencies as designated by their departmental leaders.

Experience
