Job Overview

Position Summary

The Clinical Patient Support Specialist operates under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor or Manager, nurse, therapist, lead, or Director. This role is essential in facilitating patient care, maintaining documentation, and managing supplies within the clinic or outpatient department. Collaboration with the Medical Assistant is key to support healthcare providers in delivering quality patient care.

The Clinical Patient Support Specialist is also tasked with ensuring the clinic environment is well-stocked, organized, and hygienic. In addition to patient care responsibilities, this role may include administrative duties such as answering phones and addressing inquiries from patients and their families. Compliance with all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare is mandatory. The Specialist may assist with various procedures that fall within the PCT scope of practice, catering to diverse patient populations including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Duties
* Accompany patients from the waiting area to examination rooms, providing updates on any delays in appointment schedules.
* Assist in the transportation of patients, equipment, and supplies.
* Measure vital signs and gather essential patient history.
* Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures, including cast or splint applications and other medical tasks within the PCT's knowledge base.
* Educate patients on urine collection methods.
* Ensure cleanliness in the department, adhering to post-treatment cleanup protocols.
* Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
* Follow safety guidelines regarding contact precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
* Adhere to regulatory standards affecting patient care and safety, ensuring compliance with all NAH and departmental policies.
* Support patients in wearing compression garments as needed.
* Assist with dressing removal as directed by the supervising clinician.

Wound Care and Daily Living Support
* Monitor patients for skin integrity and report any concerns to supervising clinicians.
* Aid patients with daily living activities, including toileting, as necessary.
* Assist patients with mobility under the direction of the supervising clinician, including therapeutic exercises.

Administrative Responsibilities
* Manage incoming administrative calls, ensuring effective communication and accurate information gathering to assess caller needs.
* Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the appropriate systems.
* Maintain departmental documentation and manage patient charts as requested.

Educational Development
* Demonstrate knowledge of the Department's Standards of Care and Administrative Policies, including locating the Policy and Procedures manual.
* Apply nursing process guidelines in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations, performing competently.
* Focus on personal growth, engaging in professional interactions with peers and students.

Compliance and Safety
* Report safety incidents promptly using the Midas/RDE tool; participate in safety training programs; ensure a safe working environment.
* Stay informed and comply with state and federal regulations that impact the responsibilities of the role.
* Maintain up-to-date certifications and licenses as required.
* Complete all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within designated timeframes.

Qualifications

Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program - Required

Licensure and Certification
Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in Arizona - Required
BLS certification (American Heart Association) - Required
Fingerprint Clearance:
If the employee does not possess an Arizona LNA license:
- Fingerprint Clearance Card application number - Required upon hire
- Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 90 days of hire

Employees are expected to maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by their departmental leader.

Experience Requirements
