Job Overview

Position Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) within the clinic setting, under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor or Manager, is tasked with supporting patient care, maintaining documentation, and managing supplies in the outpatient department. This role may involve collaboration with Medical Assistants to enhance the quality of care provided to patients.

The PCT is also responsible for ensuring that the clinic environment is well-stocked, clean, and orderly. In addition, the PCT may take on administrative duties within the clinic, including answering phone calls and addressing inquiries from patients and their families. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare is essential. The PCT may assist with various procedures that align with their scope of practice, in addition to fulfilling office assistant responsibilities. Care may be provided to diverse patient populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Duties
* Accompanies patients from the waiting area to examination rooms, providing updates on any delays in appointment schedules. Aids in the transportation of patients, equipment, and supplies.

Assists with the transfer of patients who have mobility restrictions.

Records vital signs and gathers essential patient history.

Prepares patients for examinations and assists with procedures, including cast or splint applications and other minor medical tasks.

Instructs patients on how to collect urine samples.

Ensures cleanliness in the department, including following proper protocols for post-treatment clean-up.

Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies.

Adheres to safety guidelines concerning contact precautions and follows all relevant policies regarding bloodborne pathogens.

Complies with regulatory and organizational standards that impact patient care and safety, as well as all departmental policies. Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Assists patients with the application and removal of compression garments as necessary.

Supports the removal of dressings as directed by the supervising clinician.


Wound Care and General Care
* Monitors patients for skin integrity and reports any concerns to supervising clinicians.

Assists patients with daily living activities, including toileting as required.

Facilitates patient mobility under the supervision of the clinician, which may include therapeutic exercises.


Administrative Responsibilities
* Answers and prioritizes incoming calls on the administrative line, effectively communicating with callers to gather complete and accurate information regarding their needs.

Demonstrates precision in documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses through appropriate documentation systems.

Maintains departmental records and manages patient charts as requested.


Educational Responsibilities
* Shows understanding of the Department's Standards of Care and Practice and is able to locate the Policy and Procedures manual in the assigned area.

Utilizes care and practice guidelines in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations, demonstrating full competency in the role.

Focuses on personal development and engages in professional interactions with colleagues and students.


Compliance and Safety
* Responsible for timely reporting of any safety incidents through the appropriate channels; participates in all safety training programs; performs duties in a safe manner; monitors the work environment for potential safety hazards and ensures compliance among peers.

Stays informed and adheres to state and federal regulations and company policies that pertain to the responsibilities of the role.

Ensures all required certifications and licenses are current and valid.

Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within the designated time frame.


Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required

Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program - Required


Certifications and Licenses
Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in the State of Arizona - Required

BLS (American Heart Association) certification - Required

Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance - Required

Fingerprint Clearance:
If the employee does not possess an Arizona LNA license:
- Fingerprint Clearance Card application number - Required upon hire
- Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 90 days from date of hire


Employees are expected to maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by their departmental leader.


Experience
