As a Financial Systems Consultant, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the administration of the Enterprise Accounts Receivable (AR) and Billing modules, along with various revenue sub-systems and the online invoice/payment portal. Your primary objective will be to ensure the financial accuracy of information recorded in the General Ledger (GL) and other accounting systems within the organization.

  • You will provide essential systems support for team members and external users of the revenue sub-systems, Enterprise AR, and Billing Modules, as well as the online invoice/payment portals.
  • You will relay necessary background information to management and the Information Communication & Technology (ICT) team for further analysis of unresolved system challenges.
  • You will compile data from various systems to comply with regulatory requirements for internal and external audits, as well as other federal, state, local, and ad hoc mandates.
  • You will act as a functional/operational expert and liaison with users of the revenue sub-systems, enterprise accounting system, and online invoice/payment portal to evaluate and ensure effective systems functionality solutions. Additionally, you will serve as the subject matter expert for Requests for Information/Proposals/Business Cases related to financial aspects of revenue sub-system implementations.
  • You will oversee quality assurance by formulating and executing test strategies, scenarios, and documenting results to ensure smooth deployment of functionalities, upgrades, or new system implementations.
  • You will create reports or reconciliations using diverse data sources to ensure all legitimate revenue transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with applicable regulations and accounting principles, including complex audit schedules and necessary disclosures.
  • You will develop and maintain comprehensive training materials and guidance for Port departments regarding various system usages.
Who you are:
  • Experienced - You possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience in accounting operations and systems, including functional administration of billing and accounts receivable systems and the implementation of financial tools and technologies.
  • Desired - A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, management information systems, or business administration is preferred.

  • Knowledgeable - You are well-versed in applying accounting and financial reporting standards set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). You have advanced knowledge of internal controls over accounting and financial reporting and experience in implementing or upgrading major financial systems from a functional perspective. You also have a solid understanding of emerging technologies and standards.
  • Analytical & Creative Problem-Solver - You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex data, with a keen attention to detail and a high level of accuracy through thorough self-review. You have effective research and troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and provide solutions for system-related issues.
  • Efficient Communicator - You have strong verbal, written, and active listening skills. You can produce concise, organized, and clear communications for internal and external stakeholders. You are capable of engaging others in productive dialogue to resolve issues and can lead multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve timely and accurate revenue reporting.
  • Technically Skilled - You are proficient with complex accounting systems (Accounts Receivable, Billing, and GL) and understand the integration between system tables and modules. You are skilled in Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, and running reports using database queries, as well as familiar with lease management software, banking software, payment gateways, and credit card reporting tools.
What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule - Your typical work hours will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), with some flexibility in start and end times.
  • Work Environment - This position will operate in a hybrid/in-office setting as determined by management.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish residency in Washington state within 30 days of employment and maintain residency during their tenure with the Port of Seattle. If teleworking, all work must be performed within Washington State.
