POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Tissue Recovery Supervisor, the Birth Tissue Acquisition Specialist is responsible for executing all tasks associated with the effective collection of donated birth tissue following delivery.

This role encompasses the sterile collection, proper labeling, handling, and shipping of donated birth tissue. The Specialist fosters positive and professional relationships with hospital personnel.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate the daily recovery operations of birth tissue.
  • Acquire donated birth tissues for transplantation and research in accordance with Versiti Organ and Tissue procedures and protocols.
  • Package, label, and transport donated birth tissue, or coordinate its transport.
  • Adhere to aseptic techniques and operating room protocols for the acquisition and labeling of donated tissue.
  • Transport or coordinate the transport of blood samples and/or cultures to designated locations.
  • Assist in managing birth tissue supplies.
  • Ensure meticulous completion of donor chart documentation.

Provide education, information, and consultation to hospital staff as necessary to guarantee that all facets of the birth tissue donation process are comprehended, supported, practiced, and implemented.

Identify and inform management of any issues that may arise with hospital staff, physicians, or nurse managers, as well as any need for process enhancements.

Establish and sustain effective relationships by delivering exceptional customer service through timely communication, presence, and visibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of one year in healthcare or a related field is required. OB Tech / Surgical Tech Certification is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in using a personal computer, Microsoft Office, and the internet for data entry and information retrieval. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing documentation. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks in challenging situations, and utilize conflict resolution skills to maintain a productive workflow. Knowledge of basic medical terminology, medications, disease processes, and human anatomy. Excellent interpersonal communication and rapport-building skills, including the ability to listen actively and respond with empathy, tact, and sensitivity. Capable of applying judgment and fact-finding to resolve issues. Demonstrates a positive approach to teamwork and flexibility with colleagues.
