Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Surgical Assistance: Assist with surgical admission and discharge, procedures, and appointments.
  • Patient Care: Assist with patient care pre-, during, and post-surgery, ensuring the highest level of patient comfort and safety.
  • Sterile Surgical Assistance: Serve as a sterile surgical assistant as needed, maintaining aseptic techniques and protocols.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely and effectively with other surgical team members to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
Daily Duties
  • Pre-Surgical Preparation: Set up and break down the operating room daily, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Instrument Care: Clean, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments, maintaining a high level of hygiene and organization.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery, following all necessary Veterinary Surgery Specialists standards and procedures.
  • Scrubbing and Assisting: Scrub into various surgical procedures as a sterile assistant, working closely with the surgical team.
  • Post-Surgical Care: Provide patient care for recovering surgical patients, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain steam autoclave, plasma, anprolene sterilizer, and other assigned equipment duties.
  • Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, including phone calls, message taking, and checking emails as needed.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete any other tasks assigned or delegated to you, ensuring the smooth operation of the mobile surgery department.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience: 6 to 12+ months of previous experience as a veterinary assistant, with a strong understanding of surgical instruments, equipment, and procedures.
  • Skills: Self-motivated, reliable, team player, and effective communicator, with basic knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, drug calculation, and conversions.
  • Qualities: Enjoys learning and working as part of a team, with the ability to communicate with coworkers, clients, and referral hospitals via verbal and written communication.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for long and short periods, with the ability to lift patients and equipment up to 50 pounds individually.
