OVERVIEW:

The Texas State Auditor's Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Auditor IV. The successful candidate will engage in comprehensive auditing tasks for the State Auditor's Office, which serves as the independent auditing entity for Texas state government. Senior Auditors are responsible for conducting risk evaluations, formulating audit strategies, executing audit activities, drawing conclusions based on evidence, and providing recommendations aimed at enhancing governmental operations. All work must adhere to established government auditing standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and execute significant components of audits.
  • Evaluate IT systems and controls at state entities to ensure data integrity and system security.
  • Create or oversee the development of visual representations of IT systems and processes.
  • Utilize project management methodologies to organize and monitor audit timelines.
  • Select and apply appropriate data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Access, ACL, SAS) to facilitate audit tasks.
  • Prepare and review audit documentation to ensure compliance with auditing standards.
  • Effectively communicate findings to clients and management in both verbal and written formats.
  • Work autonomously with minimal supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree (transcript required upon interview) or a Master's degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field. A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in auditing, IT auditing, financial analysis, or related areas is preferred. Relevant certifications and advanced degrees may substitute for one year of experience.

  • Understanding of auditing standards.
  • Familiarity with various audit methodologies, including process mapping.
  • Knowledge of IT/system controls.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Adept at identifying and evaluating internal control frameworks.
  • Proficient in sampling and interpreting results.
  • Skilled in data analysis techniques.
  • Capable of identifying and assessing risks.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and draw logical conclusions from information.
  • Effective communication of complex information both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to apply project management principles to oversee work.
  • Capability to mentor and provide constructive feedback to others.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience in public sector auditing, compliance auditing, cost accounting, or budgeting within Texas government is desirable. Preferred certifications include Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other relevant qualifications.
