POSITION TITLE: Senior Auditor

LOCATION: Austin, Texas

NUMBER OF OPENINGS: Multiple

SALARY RANGE: Senior Auditor V: $71,000 – $104,000/year or $5,916.67 – $8,666.67/month plus benefits; Senior Auditor VI: $82,500 – $120,850/year or $6,875.00 – $10,070.84/month plus benefits

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; Travel within Texas up to 25% is required.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY: Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The selected individual will perform auditing responsibilities for the State Auditor's Office, the independent auditing body of Texas state government. Senior Auditors are tasked with conducting risk evaluations, creating audit plans, executing audit methodologies, drawing conclusions based on collected evidence, and offering recommendations to improve governmental operations. The work adheres to generally accepted government auditing standards. Specialist Auditors are sought to manage and implement audit procedures (including IT audit procedures) on financial and/or performance audits of agencies, higher education institutions, and other state-funded organizations. Willingness to travel within Texas up to 25% of the time is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and execute a significant portion of an audit.
  • Evaluate IT systems and controls at state entities to assess data reliability and system security.
  • Create or oversee the development of flowcharts, diagrams, and tables that illustrate IT systems and processes.
  • Utilize project management tools to schedule and track audit timelines.
  • Select and apply appropriate data analysis tools to perform audit procedures.
  • Prepare and review audit documentation to ensure adherence to auditing standards.
  • Effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing to clients and management.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Auditor V

Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field. 4 to 7 years of experience in auditing, IT/systems auditing, financial analysis, accounting, or other relevant areas preferred. Certifications and advanced degrees may substitute for experience.

Senior Auditor VI

Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field. 6 to 9 years of experience in auditing, IT/systems auditing, financial analysis, accounting, or other relevant areas preferred. Certifications and advanced degrees may substitute for experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with auditing standards.
  • Understanding of various audit methodologies and information technology/system controls.
  • Critical thinking and internal control assessment skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, risk assessment, and effective communication of technical information.
  • Ability to apply project management concepts and supervise the work of others.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in public sector auditing (information systems or financial), federal compliance auditing, cost accounting, budgeting in Texas government, or accounting/business processes. Desirable certifications include: Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other relevant certifications.
