WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; Travel within Texas up to 25% is required.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The ideal candidate will engage in auditing activities for the Texas State Auditor's Office, the independent auditing body of Texas state government. Senior Auditors are responsible for conducting risk evaluations, creating audit plans, executing audit tasks, drawing conclusions based on evidence, and providing recommendations to enhance governmental operations. Work is performed in accordance with established government auditing standards. We are looking for Senior Auditors who can manage and execute audit tasks (including IT audit tasks) on financial and/or performance audits of state agencies, higher education institutions, and other entities receiving state funding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and execute significant portions of an audit.
- Evaluate IT systems and controls at state entities to ensure data reliability and assess system vulnerabilities.
- Develop flowcharts, diagrams, and tables that illustrate IT systems and processes.
- Utilize project management tools to schedule and monitor audit timelines.
- Select appropriate data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Access, ACL, SAS) and apply them to complete audit tasks.
- Prepare and review audit documentation to ensure compliance with auditing standards.
- Effectively communicate findings and information to clients and management in both verbal and written formats.
- Work independently with some oversight from supervisors.
A Bachelor's degree (transcript required upon interview) or a Master's degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field. A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in auditing, IT auditing, financial analysis, or related fields is preferred. Relevant certifications and advanced degrees may substitute for one year of experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of auditing standards.
- Familiarity with various audit methodologies, including process mapping.
- Knowledge of IT/system controls.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Ability to identify and evaluate internal control frameworks.
- Proficiency in sampling and interpreting results.
- Expertise in data analysis techniques.
- Capability to identify and assess risks.
- Skill in gathering, analyzing, and drawing logical conclusions from information.
- Effective communication of complex information in both written and verbal forms.
- Ability to apply project management principles to oversee work.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring others while providing constructive feedback.
- Capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
Experience in public sector auditing (IT or financial), compliance auditing under the Single Audit Act, cost accounting, or budgeting within Texas government is preferred. Desired certifications include: Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other relevant certifications.
