PRIMARY FUNCTION of the Special Education Teacher:

The role involves creating and delivering educational experiences tailored to the unique needs of each student, aligned with the overarching goals of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES of the Special Education Teacher:

  • Design and execute individualized educational plans to achieve appropriate learning objectives for each student
  • Exhibit a high degree of competence, motivation, and dedication as a member of the educational team
  • Implement teaching practices that promote cognitive, social, and emotional development
  • Foster a classroom environment conducive to addressing and resolving emotional challenges
  • Establish and maintain a physical space that supports learning
  • Keep comprehensive records of each student's academic progress and achievements
  • Document group interactions
  • Understand group dynamics and team strategies when engaging with students
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with students based on respect and effective communication
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall quality of the educational program
  • Provide and receive constructive professional feedback among staff members
  • Encourage a culture of openness, honesty, and understanding among all staff and stakeholders
  • Commit to ongoing professional development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid teaching certificate in the relevant subject area (or the ability to obtain one) and/or pursuing a Special Education endorsement within two years
  • Experience working with youth, ideally in a group setting
  • Good physical health and capability to implement behavior management techniques
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other staff members
  • Skill in designing and delivering educational plans that meet the individualized needs of students
  • Valid driver's license
  • A sense of humor
