Job Summary:

The Risk Control Analyst will work in the Global Risk Control department, reporting to the Middle Office Manager, and will measure, analyze, and monitor the P&L, Exposure, and Value At Risk of the Power Trading Desks. Responsible for overseeing both global and US energy markets and collaborating closely with the Front Office, Operations, Back Office, Finance, Compliance, and Trading Systems teams, working across multiple locations and product types, including natural gas, NGL, LNG, power, and dry bulk items.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Market Risk Analysis: Analyze, model, and report on market risk in all trading activity. Evaluate and monitor physical and financial transactions, transportation, storage, park and loan agreements, and foreign currency transactions.
  • Risk Reporting and Analytics: Create and maintain risk reporting and analytics to inform traders and management about position, profit and loss, and market risk.
  • Deal Review and Validation: Coordinate and review deals and prices in the trading system, including deal checks, price validation, curve updates, and data reconciliation.
  • Risk Modeling and Quantification: Provide critical thinking on risk reporting systems, quantification, and analysis of commodities exposure and forward price movements for multi-product trading operations.
  • Model Maintenance and Improvement: Maintain, improve, and assess risk models. Test new risk calculations, check model assumptions against fundamentals, and provide any recommended modeling/valuation modifications in order to enhance valuation and risk quantification.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with traders to identify and explain the sources of risk in their portfolios. Contribute to reporting trading results/positions to senior management.
  • Operational Risk Management: Work closely with the Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance, and Business Unit Control departments to ensure optimal control practices, operational efficiency, and policy/limit compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Support, identify, and assist in the implementation of process improvements, ranging from system testing and implementation to desk-level processes.
  • Operational Risk Identification: Identify and communicate operational risk, define risk mitigating measures and priorities.
Requirements:
  • Experience: 5+ years of Risk Control Analysis experience.
  • Compliance: Experience in Compliance with internal trading limits and External regulatory compliance.
  • Analysis and Valuation: Ability to accurately and independently analyze, valuate, and report of risk positions and trading results.
  • Risk Management Methodologies: Comprehensive understanding of risk management methodologies and valuation models.
  • Technical Skills: Power BI, Python, or other data management software like Alteryx.
  • Accuracy and Efficiency: High degree of accuracy and efficiency under set deadlines.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelors Degree in economics/ finance /business /mathematics or quantitative discipline.
